Our infant room is parent-led with daily schedules based on the family’s desires, home schedule, and needs of the child. We focus on the early stages of development with daily activities and, yes, even art. This is a time for physical and developmental growth, and our teachers concentrate on the early milestones of developmentally appropriate activities.
Our toddler room focuses on gross and fine skills, such as walking, self-feeding, and one-word early language skills. They begin to learn to entertain themselves and play alongside a friend. They will start to recognize facial expressions and act accordingly.
In the two-year-old classrooms, we concentrate on self-help skills along with following 2 step instructions. We work on cognitive skills such as playing pretend or make-believe. You will see them start to develop a dominant hand.
Apart from reading and writing, We offer core and academic concepts of literacy and math, such as counting, coloring, and letter recognition, and developing large and fine motor skills, such as walking in line and using a pencil. It also includes social and school-readiness, such as making friends, sharing, and taking turns.
This is the classroom that prepares your child for Kindergarten and beyond. We do work on more math, letter recognition, and sight word recognition, but this is the age where empathy, listening skills, and cooperation become very prominent.
The afterschool is designed for children ages 5 to 11 years old. Our program offers fun activities and daily homework help. Summers are filled with field trips, swimming, bowling, and on-site activities. Sign-up on our school age program page!
SHECP honors the spiritual needs and development of young children, and recognizes the spiritual growth of persons as a key factor in healthy human development. As a church-related organization, these spiritual needs are addressed through the basic teachings of the Christian faith. Various aspects of the Christian faith and Christian tradition are an important part of the program. This experience includes weekly chapel times for our two’s, preschool and pre-Kindergarten children. Most importantly, the program recognizes Christian education as an attitude and a way of behaving that promotes the health and wholeness of children. We believe that children are a blessing and a reward from God. SHECP does not deny services or education to families who do not embrace the Christian faith. At the same time, parents should know that the program is an outreach ministry of Southern Hills United Methodist Church.
SHECP endorses a developmentally appropriate curriculum that is responsive to individual dierences in ability and interests. The major goal of SHECP is to build a community of learners through child-centered and active learning experiences. The teacher is a professional educator who recognizes each child as a unique individual and designs appropriate educational experiences that meet the different levels of ability, development, and learning styles of each child. The teachers work in a close partnership with parents, communicating regularly to build mutual understanding and consistency in each child’s developmental program.
God is the Creator and Ruler of the Universe. God eternally exists in the Trinity: the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.
Jesus Christ is the Son of God. Jesus is co-equal with God. Jesus lived a sinless human life and oered himself as the perfect sacrifice for the sins of all people by dying on a cross. Jesus arose from the dead after three days to demonstrate God’s power over sin and death. Jesus ascended into Heaven’s glory and will return someday to earth to reign as King of Kings and Lord of Lords.
The Holy Spirit is the third person of the Trinity. God is present in the world to make people aware of their need for Jesus Christ. God also lives in every Christian, particularly from the time the person becomes aware of salvation. God provides the Christian with power for living, understanding of spiritual truth, and guidance in doing what is right. God gives every believer a spiritual gift. As Christians, we seek to live under God’s control and guidance daily.
The Bible contains God’s word. Human authors, under the guidance of the Holy Spirit, wrote the Bible. It is the supreme source of truth for Christian beliefs and living. The Bible is inspired by God.
Salvation is God’s free gift to us but we must accept it. We can never make up for our sin by self-improvement or good works. Only by trusting in Jesus Christ as God’s oer of forgiveness can anyone be saved from sin’s penalty. When we turn from our self-ruled life and turn to Jesus in faith, we are saved. Eternal life begins the moment one receives Jesus Christ into life by faith.
